Gov. Rick Snyder proposes 599-mile trail to show off state

A 599-mile trail stretching from Detroit’s Belle Isle to Wisconsin — connecting existing trails and meandering through the middle part of the Michigan mitten and across its Upper Peninsula — would showcase some of the state’s most breathtaking vistas to hikers, snowmobilers and countless other off-road enthusiasts, according to a proposal unveiled Wednesday by Gov. Rick Snyder.

The trail would wend through the state’s forested areas and prairies, and through open lands and by waterways, offering year-round recreation to residents and tourists, said Ron Olson, chief of Michigan’s parks and recreation division.

MDOT RFP on Economic Impact Study of Bicycling in Michigan

Findings will be used independently by business owners, perspective business owners, or by local, regional and state government decision makers and planners to measure, evaluate and track over time, the extent to which local, regional and statewide economic and community benefits have been influenced by bicycling or bicycle infrastructure. Collect and evaluate…

Silver Bells By Bike – LMB Sponsoring Bicycle “Float” Nov 16th

League of Michigan Bicyclists is once again hosting a bicycle-themed “float” in the annual Silver Bells Electric Light Parade to be held November 16th at 6:10 pm. We are inviting cyclists from across the state to light up their bikes and join us for this annual celebration in downtown Lansing.

This year’s bicycle “float” theme is tweed. (No, not tweet as in twitter…TWEED!) So, pull out your warm woolens if tweed is part of your wardrobe and come ride with us. (If not, ride with us anyway – just make sure your bicycle is decorated with plenty of lights) Afterwards, stick around to watch the lighting of the state holiday tree with 150,000+ of your closest friends.
