City turned down for trailhead grant

If first you don’t succeed, try, try again.

That’s the philosophy of interim Alpena City manager Greg Sundin who recently learned the city did not receive a large grant for a trailhead project.

Sundin told the municipal council this week, that a $245,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will not be coming in. Sundin noted, however, that the project didn’t miss out by much and he plans to resubmit it for a future grant.

The recent news will delay the $350,000 trailhead project, which now might get underway in 2014 – if the city can secure a grant next year.
