DNR invites public comment on forest plans for Cheboygan & Otsego counties

forest2The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is accepting public comment on proposed forest treatment plans for the Gaylord Management unit.

That unit includes the counties of Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet, Mackinac and Otsego.

The DNR will host open houses on June 25th and 26th in Gaylord and Indian River to provide information and receive public comment on proposed forest management treatments for 2015.

The Gaylord meeting will be held on June 25 at the DNR field office in Gaylord. The other meeting is being held at the DNR field office in Indian River. Both meetings start at 3 p.m. and end at 7 p.m.

Each year, DNR personnel evaluate one-tenth of the state forest. The inventory provides key decision-making information for foresters and wildlife, fisheries and other resource managers.

On July 24, the DNR will complete its formal compartment review to decide on final treatment plans for these areas.
