Youth Cross Country Ski Club Week 3

Third session of our six week ski club program was a success with a big thank you to Mother Nature for supplying us with just enough snow to pull it off. Thanks to Jeff and Dave Blumenthal, Hal Butler, Wayne Christopherson  and the rest of the Thunder Bay Trails volunteers for sharing your passion and knowledge of cross country skiing with our kids ensuring a life long healthy activity is passed on to the next generation.

Aliferis Memorial Race – September 3, 2016

The 15th Annual Aliferis Memorial Race is open to runners, walkers, and bikers of all ages and ab11822673_10153144187189389_6359843295473297701_nility levels. Registration fees range from $20 – $70 based on event and date of registration. Discounts available for early registration.

Events include Duathlon,5K Run, Bike Race (26 miles), Bike Tour (6 miles), and 1-mile Run/Walk

Register online for the 2016 Aliferis Memorial Race.

We again are offering a Family Rate (immediate family only). To take advantage of this discounted rate, register for one person, selecting “Family Rate” under Events. We will contact you regarding specific events and the names and ages of additional family members.

Tour Alpena County’s MTB Trails Fund Raiser

Saturday July 23rd 2016 at 8am Ride all the single track in Alpena County starting at Rockport ~ Norway Ridge Pathway ~ Chippewa Hills Pathway

The day would begin at 8am at Rockport State Rec Area doing one 7 mile loop around the quarry, then jumping in your vehicle and driving to Norway Ridge Pathway where you would do an lap approx. 7 miles then back into your vehicle on to Chippewa Hills Pathway for a lap of 7 to 10 miles.

The Sixth Annual Founders Brewing Co. Barry-Roubaix March 22nd, 2014

Michigan’s 2014 cycling race season kicks off the year with the Killer Gravel Road Race, the largest gravel road race in the USA- Like the classic it’s named after, Barry-Roubaix will test riders against rolling gravel roads (80%), pavement, one mile of rough two track, rocks, sand, mud, and possibly snow and ice, along with 2200 feet of climbing over its 36 mile loop. There is a racer cap of 3500 entries. Registration opens December 1st, 2013, noon, est and closes at 3500 racers or March 15th, 11:45pm whichever happens first.

Dork Brothers 11th Annual Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk

Join the Dork Brothers on Thursday, November 28th , 2013, Thanksgiving Day, for the 11th Annual Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk.

Come out and celebrate your health & fitness. This early Run/Walk will help prepare you for your Thanksgiving meal. You will also get to meet & greet with Dorks.  This event will help support local food pantries & the homeless shelter.

Set an example for couch-potatoes, wimps and other weenies too afraid to face perfect Dork Brother running weather! (sub-zero wind chill and blizzard-type snow conditions, pouring sleet or not!)

Rockport to hold rec day June 22

ROCKPORT – A group aimed at promoting Rockport State Recreation Area has planned a day of events on June 22 to introduce people to the park.

The Friends of Rockport/Besser Natural Area organized the day, complete with plenty of outdoor activities that are free to try, President Carol Dodge Grochowski said. It’s similar to a grand opening organized by the same group for the park last year, shortly after the Michigan Department of Natural Resources designated what had been known as the Rockport Property as a state recreation area.
