Aliferis Memorial Race – September 3, 2016

The 15th Annual Aliferis Memorial Race is open to runners, walkers, and bikers of all ages and ab11822673_10153144187189389_6359843295473297701_nility levels. Registration fees range from $20 – $70 based on event and date of registration. Discounts available for early registration.

Events include Duathlon,5K Run, Bike Race (26 miles), Bike Tour (6 miles), and 1-mile Run/Walk

We again are offering a Family Rate (immediate family only). To take advantage of this discounted rate, register for one person, selecting “Family Rate” under Events. We will contact you regarding specific events and the names and ages of additional family members.

We have an event next week showcasing our trails system in Alpena and the recent wind storm has left Chippewa Hills Pathway in shambles. We need to clean it up ASAP! Monday evening at 6:30pm we are calling for all hands on deck to help remove all the blow downs on the mountain bike single track at Chippewa.

Bring your leaf blowers, bring your chain saws, bring your biceps, bring your bug repellent!

Tour Alpena County’s MTB Trails Fund Raiser

Saturday July 23rd 2016 at 8am Ride all the single track in Alpena County starting at Rockport ~ Norway Ridge Pathway ~ Chippewa Hills Pathway

The day would begin at 8am at Rockport State Rec Area doing one 7 mile loop around the quarry, then jumping in your vehicle and driving to Norway Ridge Pathway where you would do an lap approx. 7 miles then back into your vehicle on to Chippewa Hills Pathway for a lap of 7 to 10 miles.

There is Still Time to Enjoy Your Bike this Year

Labor Day is always thought of as the unofficial end to summer.  We then start looking at putting things in storage until Spring of the IMG_1926next year.  It makes us face the harsh reality that another long cold winter is only just weeks away.  Dreading that long stretch near the end of January and into the month of February of gray days that just seem endless.  If those thoughts don’t give you immediate pangs of Cabin Fever, nothing will.  So why waste another minute or day by not getting out to enjoy our great out of doors in Northeast Michigan.

Championship Point Series racing has begun!

The MMBA sponsored Championship Point Series kicked off the mountain bike race season Sunday with the annual Yankee Springs Time Trial. Over 700 racers competed in the 24th edition of the race. The Yankee Springs Time Trial is a Western Michigan Mountain Bike Alliance IMBA-chapter fundraiser and proceeds go to buildi and maintaining trails in West Michigan.

Next up is the Fort Custer Stampede, also a fundraiser for the Southwest Michigan Mountain Bike Association IMBA chapter. Proceeds from this event support trails at Fort Custer and the surrounding area. Expect nearly 600 racers for this one.

IMBA recently hired several new full-time employees to advance mountain biking in distinct U.S. territories. The new positions significantly expand the IMBA Region Directors program, bringing the total number of professional mountain bike advocates to 13:

MMBA adds two new members to Advocacy Team

The Michigan Mountain Biking Association is pleased to introduce to the state our two new associate directors forAA_055zoom Advocacy. Laura Papenhagen and Nicholas Occhipinti will work with MMBA advocacy director Ted Welsh to monitor legislation and be involved in the various advocacy activities necessary to maintain and grow our access around the state. Both come with a wealth experience and enthusiasm. Ted will be meeting with them to divvy up responsibilities and tasks. Please welcome them to the team!
