Youth Cross Country Ski Club first two weeks

Three weeks in and we have completed two weeks of ski club meetings. We missed week two due to weather conditions but have managed to get is some quality instruction never the less. We still anticipate getting all 6 weeks in so keep doing your snow dances. Thanks to all the volunteers for your hard work, thanks to Jeff Blumenthal for putting this together, thank you to the Alpena County Youth and Recreation Committee and thanks to the Aplex for hosting our club.

Aliferis Memorial Race – September 3, 2016

The 15th Annual Aliferis Memorial Race is open to runners, walkers, and bikers of all ages and ab11822673_10153144187189389_6359843295473297701_nility levels. Registration fees range from $20 – $70 based on event and date of registration. Discounts available for early registration.

Events include Duathlon,5K Run, Bike Race (26 miles), Bike Tour (6 miles), and 1-mile Run/Walk

Register online for the 2016 Aliferis Memorial Race.

We again are offering a Family Rate (immediate family only). To take advantage of this discounted rate, register for one person, selecting “Family Rate” under Events. We will contact you regarding specific events and the names and ages of additional family members.

Tour Alpena County’s MTB Trails Fund Raiser

Saturday July 23rd 2016 at 8am Ride all the single track in Alpena County starting at Rockport ~ Norway Ridge Pathway ~ Chippewa Hills Pathway

The day would begin at 8am at Rockport State Rec Area doing one 7 mile loop around the quarry, then jumping in your vehicle and driving to Norway Ridge Pathway where you would do an lap approx. 7 miles then back into your vehicle on to Chippewa Hills Pathway for a lap of 7 to 10 miles.

Petoskey (M-119) to Alanson – Trail to be completed before July 4

ALANSON — A seven-mile trail from M-119 in Bear Creek Township to Alanson is expected to be completed as early as July 4.

After more than 20 years in planning and creation the rail corridor winding in between Round Lake and Crooked Lake will become a 10-foot-wide, paved asphalt trail connecting the Little Traverse Wheelway to Alanson.

“I see this as a neat destination for people who want to take a day trip,” said Emily Meyerson, Top of Michigan Trails Council’s northern Lower Peninsula trailways coordinator. “Pretty much everyone can bike seven miles.”

Grand opening for Millersburg Depot Regional Trailhead

trail-atvA grand opening event is being held for the new Millersburg Depot Regional Trailhead.

The trailhead is located halfway between Alpena and Cheboygan, along the North Eastern State Trail or NEST.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Presque Isle County, the Village of Millersburg and the Millersburg Area Historical Society shared resources to develop and maintain the trail for year-round enjoyment. Those attending can come by snowmobile, foot or car. Guests can also bring ice skates and enjoy the village ice rink located on-site.

Trails Training from Michigan Recreation and Park Association

MRPA-colorlogo-300x142Held annually in conjunction with the Michigan Recreation and Park Association Conference & Trade Show, the Michigan Trails summit is an opportunity for trail enthusiasts, advocates and organizations to enjoy networking opportunities and a day of trails-related training. This year’s event will be held on February 26, 2013 in Lansing at the Radisson Hotel Lansing at the Capitol.

Attendees this year will get the lowdown on the Michigan Comprehensive Trails Plan, and in-depth know-how on funding, trail maintenance, and how to position trails for placemaking in your community. The conference brochure has more details on this exciting day!

A New Trail Event for the New Year!

Runners-in-winter_3002-300x200Join the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports and the Michigan Fitness Foundation to auto-show-shuffle-flyer-webcelebrate the opening day of the North American Auto Show’s Public Days with a one of a kind 5k Run/Walk. The course will wind participants along the Detroit riverfront and Dequindre Cut, allowing participants to experience Detroit’s beautiful multi-use trails. 5K participants will receive a discount on tickets to the Auto Show and a commemorative t-shirt.

First Michigan Trails Week Recap

The first Michigan Trails Week, held September 23-29, was designed to highlight both summer season trail use, and promote opportunities for winter trail use. It was a collaboration with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Michigan Recreation and Park Association and the Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance, and ended on National Public Lands Day in an effort to promote stewardship of Michigan’s amazing trail network.
