BOBBY BRADY AND THANE WHITCELL TO TACKLE THE TRANSAM Day 7

Day 7: Christianburg Rest Day 🙂

Tuesday May 7, 2013

Our planned rest day included a 10 mile cycle adventure in the pouring rain which ended at a little slice of bicycling heaven called Hokie Spokes Bicycle Shop in Blacksburg.

The owner is an incredible bike mechanic/friend to all traveling cyclist/hell of a nice guy. Not only did he give Boo and Chester an awesome tune up but the price was more than reasonable. As he toiled away we all swapped stories of cycling and stories of life.

This shop is no big box knockoff. Hell no, this place is the real deal. Bikes of every shape, size and color all lying around in various stages of disarray. Each and every one of these bicycles had a smile on their frames because they knew they were in a place filled with love. The whole experience made me smile inside.

Dave was even so kind as to call up a friend of his to cart our bikes and our asses back to our hotel so we would not have to traverse the dangers of the flooding roads for a second time today. Thank you, thank you a million times over Dave.

I am finding that I have the appetite of an elephant these days. Much of the remainder of or day of rest was spent shoveling more calories into my body than any human should ingest in one day.

We have made some serious friends with the cook and wait staff at the Waffle House next door. I’m sure we will get one last chance to hug them good by tomorrow morning.

We hope to roll out of town early and if the cycling gods will allow arrive in the town of Wytheville tomorrow night.
