BOBBY AND THANE TACKLE THE TRANSAM Day 36 Ness City to Scott City

Day Thirty Six Thane’s Blog: Hello, this is your captian speaking

Wednesday June 5, 2013, 56 miles (90 km) – Total so far: 2,048 miles (3,296 km)

Hello, on behalf of the flight crew this is your captain speaking. We would like to welcome you to Kansas airlines. I have turned on the fasten your seat belt sign and I anticipate it will stay on for your entire journey today. The control tower has advised us that the winds will be blowing quite fierce again today out of the north and we have a chance of rain and late afternoon storms. Just a typical day here in the state of Kansas. Now sit back and enjoy our 56 mile trip to Scott City. And we thank you for choosing Kansas airlines.

It was raining as we ate breakfast but stopped just about the time we threw our legs over the top tube. That didn’t break my heart at all. We had another storm cell roll through last night with thunder as loud as a shotgun blast and lightning that lit the inside of the tent every time it came to ground. Luckily for us these storms seems a little south of us so no real danger. It just made for a hard time trying to get any sleep. The highlights of the day included not getting rained on. Not getting crushed by any one of the hundreds of semi-trailers we encountered today. Getting hit by my first tumbleweed. Eating like an absolute pig again and having the chance to cycle one last day with Mark and Julie. I will miss them very much but this seems to be life on the Trans am trail. Tomorrow the badass band of cycling dudes will regroup and head for Sheridan Lake nearly 80 miles away. I did find out today from one of the locals who knew the weather better than any of those TV people at the weather center the true skinny on the winds around here. “It’s either gonna blow hard out of the North or hard out of the South.” When I asked him if it ever blew from the East he simply laughed and said “Hell no!”

Well not a lot to talk about today cause we’re in Kansas. Yup wind flat more wind more flat. We were up before daylight packed and headed to the Cactus Club for breakfast.

Hit the road with a 1/3 tail and 2/3 cross wind for the next 56 miles. Gray skys but no rain other than when we first started the day. Not even eoough to get us damp.

Cross wind?

Cross wind?

I forgot to mention it's cold as well. Thane had to break out his pantyhose. A little roadside ballet.
