Every day is a new day with new and unseen beauty. That is one thing I have grown to know about this journey. I am here to tell you. The climb out of the city of Pueblo is absolutely breathtaking. Lift your head up my friends. The views will take your breath away. Rock formations that have been carved out over the years. Shades of browns and greys all dotted with sparse vegetation. Yes, there is true beauty in this barren landscape.

After the climb out of town we were greeted with a pretty strong headwind that meant we would average around 8 mph for the next couple hours but all we had to do was pick our heads up. The Rocky Mountains were truly all around us and I was simply in awe. At one point we were very close to running out of water and the store that the map listed was closed until 4 pm so I saw a dude weed whacking his yard and Boo and I pulled in. When I asked him if we could fill up our water bottles he said sure. We then proceeded to spend 20 minutes chatting up his entire family including gramma and grampa about our cycling journey. Then I got a photo of grammas face and a hug and off we went. It was awesome.

We scored a little cabin with an air conditioner as our resting place for the night. Then we scored a ride back up the 2 mile hill to the restaurant for dinner. After eating like a couple pigs Bobby and I both agreed that rather than try to score a car ride back to the campground we would walk off our dinner. Hey, it’s all downhill right. Tomorrow the map says we will have a fierce day of climbing in the mountains and the locals say the same thing. Guess we will just have to eat the Rockies for breakfast and lunch. And maybe even dinner. It’s gonna be a long day.

Well we said goodbye to Pueblo at 7 this morning. It was just beautiful out and the wind wasn’t really a factor. We had a little continental breakfast at the motel and figured on the big feed about 25 miles down the road.

Yup you guessed it they were closed. You just can’t trust that these little towns are going to have anything open when you get there or not. We were forced to knock on a door and ask for water and as always on this tour it turned out to be a real positive experience.

We pushed on another 11 miles to Florence and the Rose Bud Cafe. It was there that I fell in love. With a big slab of Black Forrest Ham that is and 2 pancakes and two over easy eggs on top. I seem to ride just to eat.

We left Ruffy behind in Pueblo as he needed a rest day and he didn’t want to be in the way of our up coming visit with our wives in Breckenridge. I say get your but up here Ruff you’re one of us now. Besides we need you to pull us up those hills.

We watered up in Canon City and the gal pointed us to what they call 8 mile hill and said that is the way to Royal Gorge. The heat was pretty intense around 104 degrees but we set a pace and came out on top. I think we seen a lot worse in VA.
