BOBBY AND THANE TACKLE THE TRANSAM Day 44

Day Fourty Four Thanes Blog: Going up!

Thursday June 13, 2013

The second rest day here in Breckenridge truly felt like a rest day. My wife is feeling slightly better as her body adjusts to the altitude. Her headache is nearly gone and her smile has returned. I’m really stoked about that.

We took a ride on the gondola that goes up the mountain that we see from our room. At the end of the ride were a restaurant and a bunch of things for young kids and us old dudes that act like kids to enjoy. After thinking about it for about10 seconds I stood in line for five minutes and scored a ticket for a wild ride on a mountain slide.

It was a modified plastic sled with a break in the center. You basically sit on this sled and travel at crazy speeds over this track made of cement. It was awesome really. I asked the dude at the top who was barking out directions on the proper way to get down the mountain without serious injury if I was the oldest kid on this thing today. He smiled and said “Um, maybe so far, but its early in the day!”

Fox and I hung out in the downtown area just window shopping and holding hands. In my mind I knew I would totally miss just the hand holding and exchange of smiles with her. Today it hit me; my cycling journey is far, far from over. On Sunday my mind simply must switch back to “trans am” mode.

We ended our night at a little restaurant/bar drinking dark beer and wine and looking at the moon as she smiled on the mountains.
