BOBBY AND THANE TACKLE THE TRANSAM Day 51 Rawlins to Jeffery City

Day Fifty One Thane’s Blog: i love you boo

Thursday June 20, 2013, 70 miles (113 km) – Total so far: 2,684 miles (4,319 km)

Today is another one of those days that my body did the work necessary to cycle 70 miles but my mind often wandered.

Today, my youngest granddaughter, the tiny bundle of smiles that I named my bike after, had her tonsils removed. My daughter mailed me a photo and as luck would have it I actually got to see it. The cell coverage in this part of the world is nearly nonexistent.

Just like the day in Pueblo when Boo and her sister had their dance recital I knew in my heart of hearts that much of today’s cycling would be spent inside my head wishing I could have been there when boo woke up from her surgery.

She came through just fine and from a small café/bar in Jeffery City Wyoming I sent her a little Facebook Video telling her I love her to the sky. I am not sure if she could tell I was fighting back tears or not but it’s all good.

We were up at 4:30 am and turning pedals by 5:30 in an attempt at avoiding the punishment that the winds in this area would inflict. As it turned out we should have gotten up at 3. The last hour and a half were spent head down into a fierce westerly wind and our front wheels were pointing due west.

Still, the views for the last 23 miles helped ease the pain of the cycling. If you are ever in this area bring a camera to the Split Rock National Park area. It’s truly incredible.

The plan for tomorrow is to roll out of the tent around 4:30. Get our stuff packed up. Grab breakfast out of the pannier and hit the road by 5:30 again. We head for the town of Lander tomorrow. Around 60miles away. Each of us has come to realize that the wind blows hard from the West every day in the state so we know in our hearts that tomorrow after lunch we will open up the can of pain that Mother Nature has in store for us.

And to tell you the truth, we are ok with that.

Day Fifty One Bobby’s Blog

Thursday June 20, 2013, 70 miles (113 km) – Total so far: 2,684 miles (4,319 km)

I think we were out the earliest of the whole trip this morning. About 5:30 am. We had a quick snack in the motel room and headed out in search of a real breakfast 33 miles down the road in Lamont. The morning was filled with antelope sightings even in town. We had a pretty nice ride mostly down hill and flat with a slight tail cross wind. Got to Lamont and had a great breakfast and headed out to Muddy Gap where we signed our names to the wall in the store and had a snack and filled the water bottles and began the last leg of the journey for the day at Jeffery City.

When we made the turn to Jeffery City so did the wind and was now in our face and increased to about 18 miles an hour. It seems to be calm in the morning than increased through out the day. I think one should be close to where he’s going to be by 2pm cause the wind is just too much.

We are at the Split Rock Bar and Cafe it’s the only gig in town and have set up camp at the Lions Park under an awning. No shower tonight. Lander awaits us tomorrow.

Had quite a surprise when I looked out the window of the bar and saw my friend Ron Anderson in the parking lot. He is on his way to visit his son in Jackson Hole. We will be hooking up with him in Moran on Sunday.
