BOBBY AND THANE TACKLE THE TRANSAM Day Fourty Three

Day Fourty Three Thanes blog: Hugging friends

Thursday June 13, 2013

This morning we woke to the usual noise of big city Breckenridge around 7 am. I absolutely understand why people love this area of the country and I understand why the traffic volume is over the top. Who wouldn’t want to live or work in the shadow of these mountains?

After the pancakes that fox and made for me found a home in my gut we packed up boo and headed back towards the tiny town of Alma and the beginning of Hoosier Pass. I know I will never be in this place again and my soul needed to soar on this climb one more time.

Its brilliantly bizarre how this life works sometimes and as my wife pulled the vehicle over to let boo and I out at the base of the climb I saw two familiar cyclists on the opposite side of the road taking a photograph of the towns sign.

Mark and Julie, two incredible people we had cycled with a few times before were about to embark on the climb. When we recognized one another the hugs were flowing like wine at an Italian dinner meal.

After I introduced them to the fox the three of us headed up the mountain and the fox took the time to create some awesome photographs for all of us. What an incredible stroke of luck for me to meet up with these people once again.

They plan on staying here in Breckenridge tonight and we have made plans for them along with ruff stuff to have a giant dinner together. Fox loves to cook and is at the grocery store picking up food as we speak.

Maybe the true reason my soul needed to make this mountain pass summit one more time was that it knew something I didn’t. Yes, I truly loved the climb once again. I am becoming addicted to climbing. But maybe, just maybe my soul knew I would once again have the chance to cycle a little bit with some special friends.

A huge thank you to my soul. And my soul mate the fox for understanding my desire to cycle up Hoosier Pass again today.
