BOBBY AND THANE TACKLE THE TRANSAM Day 52: Jeffery City to Lander

Day Fifty Three Thane’s Blog

Friday June 21, 2013, 60 miles (97 km) – Total so far: 2,744 miles (4,416 km)

The alarm went off at 4:30 am. The legs started turning the pedals at 5:30 am. And by 11:30 am we had made the 60mile trip to the city of Larned.

None of this would have been possible without lots of factors being put into place. First and foremost, the Wyoming winds stayed asleep until around 1 pm today. We did have a head wind all day but nothing in the 20 – 30 range like the last three days.

Second, much of the terrain today was either flat or nearly that way. We even had a 5 mile descent. I know for a fact that tomorrow we will pay for this because the map indicates that every mile of tomorrows 75 will be uphill. In fact, it’s completely uphill for the next two days.

Since we arrived early and this city is rather large we made lunch/breakfast our first order of business. Then we headed to the city park to pitch our tents. This was followed closely by heading to the city pool area where we were told we could buy a shower for around $2.00. The rumor was totally true. Booyyaahhh!

Got to face time all the grandkids today so that made my soul soar. If anyone who has ever cycled this journey tells you its easy mentally they are out of their fucking minds. I miss my family every day but I know they are cheering me on so I push the pedals for them as much as for myself.

Tomorrow promises to be a brutal day so I better keep my rambling around here short. Need to find a restaurant and refuel. Then head off to bed early tonight.

Yea, even the badass cycling dudes need their beauty rest.
